Zurich which is set along the northern end of Lake Zurich and is the largest city in Switzerland with a population of over 1,384,800 in the city and urban area alone. Zurich is filled with many historical facts and monuments and is a city bursting with culture. In fact this remarkable city was named in 2006 and 2007 as the city with the Best Quality of Life.

One of Zurich's most famous buildings is the Grossmunster which dates back to 1100 with its Romanesque architecture. Another popular church to visit tis the Fraumunster Abbey which dates back to 853. Zurich features a wide range of museums with the Swiss National Museum being filled with some of Europe's most historical art displays. Here you will be able to view art ranging from carved alters to Gothic art to exhibitions from the Middle Ages. Other popular museums to visit are the Kunsthaus, Museum Rietberg, and the Museum Bellerive just to name a few. A trip to Zurich would not be complete without visiting the Roman Castle of Lindenhof which you will find near Saint Peter.

Be sure to visit Niederdorf which is the old part of Zurich where you can stop at one of the many boutiques as you wander through the old towns historical alley's. Another popular shopping destination is Bahnhofstrasse which features two major department stores.

Getting to Zurich is easy with the Zurich Airport which is the largest airport in Switzerland. The railway system is well connected to the rest of Europe with the main train station being Hauptbahnhof.
