Lugano can be found within the canton of Ticino which is in fact the only canton in Switzerland that officially speaks Italian. The town of Lugano is located in the southern parts of Switzerland near the Italian border and the town's most noticeable natural landmark is Lake Lugano, which is a glacial lake. Lake Lugano is a massive 48.7 square kilometres and is located in Switzerland and Italy. Lugano attracts many visitors each year and is just 77 kilometres away from Milan and just over 200 kilometres away from Zurich.
There are many outdoor activities that you can join in while you are visiting Lugano and swimming in Lake Lugano is one of them. If you are planning on spending some time on the lake be sure to take your passport as parts of the lake are in Italy. You can also participate in hiking, mountain biking, or go for a ride in the local funicular.
If your keen to do a spot of sight seeing then a visit to the Lugano Cathedral should not be missed. The cathedral that stands today dates back to the 15th century and facade is the buildings main feature. Travelling to Lugano is simple with regular flights landing at the airport from England, Italy, France and Germany. You can also travel to Lugano via rail, bus or car.
