General Information about Alicante

Alicante which is famous for its beautiful Mediterranean port can be found within the province of the same name. Dating back to 324 B.C Alicante belongs to the Valencian Community which is set in the central to south eastern parts of Spain.

Closely neighboured by Benidorm and Murciam, Alicante is also a great place to visit for those wishing to explore the nearby Balearic Islands. With a recorded population of more than 331,700 residents in 2008, the city of Alicante is considered to be one of Spain's fastest growing cities.

One of the best times to visit Alicante is during June as this is when the city's annual Bonfires of Saint John is held. As you would imagine bonfires are the main agenda of the festival with people of all ages joining in on the festivities. The festivities do not end when the fires go out but continues for seven more days with fireworks lighting up the evening sky's.

Travelling to Alicante is simple with regular flights arriving from cities such as Barcelona and Madrid. But it is also possible to travel to Alicante via bus and rail with regular trains arriving from Madrid, Benidorm and Murcia.
