General Information about Peterhof

Closely located near Saint Petersburg and ideally located along the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland is where you will find the ever popular town of Peterhof. Originally developed by Peter the Great, Peterhof's main attraction is the Palace Ensemble and the Great Peterhof Palace.

The Great Peterhof Palace design is often compared to the Palace of Versailles located in France which is listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. The Great Peterhof Palace contains about thirty rooms and the Picture Hall is of particular interest with its large collection of paintings.

The gardens around the palace are known as the Upper Park and the Lower Park which is the most impressive out of the two. The Palace Ensemble is also listed as a World Heritage Site and is definitely worth visiting Peterhof if you are planning a trip to St Petersburg. The best way of travelling to Peterhof is by train with regular trains travelling from St Petersburg.
