The coastal city of Viana do Castelo, which is located in northern Portugal within the region of Norte is home to a population of more than 92,000 residents. Closely neighboured by Porto at a distance of just over 70 kilometres the Viana do Castelo is recorded as being founded back in 1253. Although the population of Viana do Castelo is very large the city itself only covers an area of 318 square kilometres.

Boasting some stunning views of the Rio Lima harbour some of the city's main attractions is the Castelo do Neiva and the Monte de Santa Luzia church. With the Monte de Santa Luzia church hilltop location you will be able to get a birds eye view of Viana do Castelo. If you are visiting Portugal during late August be sure to make your way over to Viana do Castelo as this is when the city hosts its annual festival known as Festas de Nossa Senhora de Agonia.
