May through to July the weather is quite spectacular where the island becomes the Land of the Midnight Sun while in the winter months of December and January the dark season appears with the sun disappearing for approximately 4 weeks. Winters on the west and south sides are cool and mild with snow being rare whereas on the mountains of Vagakaillen and Svolvaer Goat are normally coated in snow.
