PodgoricaGeneral Information about PodgoricaPodgorica which is the capital of Montenegro and was originally known as Birziminium back in the 11th century and is home to approximately 136,473 people. Podgorica is approximately 15 kilometres north of Lake Skadar in central Montenegro.
You will notice as you explore the city of Podgorica that the architecture does vary and has strong influences from the Ottoman Era. There still remains two Mosques and a Turkish Clock from that era, which can be found in the Old Turkish town of Stara Varos.
Today Podgorica is a charming mix of old and new with many modern buildings. One of the most recent monuments of Podgorica is the Millennium Bridge which was built in 2005 and is 140 metres long.

The locals are huge fan's of espresso's as well the hamburger which is slightly different from the average burger.
