General Information about Riga

Latvia's capital Riga which is set along the Baltic Sea coast and the Daugava river, here in this beautiful city you will notice Riga's spectacular Art Nouveau architecture. Riga which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is over 800 years old, is home to over forty percent of the Latvia's total population.

First on your list of things to see when visiting Riga would have to be the Old town, which is filled with historical German architecture dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries. The impressive Doma Cathedral in particular should not be missed with is famous organ and is also the largest Balkan church. If you wish to see all of Riga from the one spot then St Peters Church is the ideal place with elevators that go all the way to the top.

Riga is home to many beautiful parks which are ideal for strolling along in the evenings. There are plenty of Museums and cultural activities do see and do while you are in Riga and if you would like to view some traditional culture then a trip to the Opera House should definitely be on the cards.

Eating out is a real treat in Riga with endless restaurants and cafe's to choose from, with both local and international cuisines. While in Riga you must sample a drop of the famous Tervetes beer which is meant to the be best beer in Latvia.
