Syracuse

General Information about Syracuse

Syracuse which has been inhabited since 734 B.C can be found in South East Sicily. Syracuse is home to over 123,000 residents and is well known as being listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Syracuse belongs to a province of the same name and is also the capital. Syracuse is a coastal city and is ideally located along the Gulf of Syracuse. Off of the Gulf of Syracuse is the Ionian Sea which is well known as being the arm of the Mediterranean Sea.

The city of Syracuse is filled with history and culture and is home to many interesting historical sites and buildings. While you are visiting Syracuse you will be able visit many important monuments ranging from the city's Roman amphitheatre to the Cathedral of Syracuse.

Syracuse is well connected with the rest of Italy with regular trains arriving from mainly from Rome and Naples. It is also possible to travel to Syracuse via bus from Noto, Ragusa, Gela and Catania.
