Milan is one of the largest cities and most popular tourist destinations in Italy. Milan is located in the central north of Italy in the Lombardy region. The Olona and Lambro Rivers run through the city. Milan has been continuously settled since 400BC when it was founded by the Celts. Two centuries later the Roman's conquered the Celtic settlement, then many centuries later named Milan the capital of the Western Roman Empire. Milan is world-famous as the design and fashion capital of the world and is today home to more than 1.3 million people.

Milan has many landmarks, places of interest and attractions such as The Duomo, Teatro alla Scala, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Castello Sforzesco, Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, Basilica of San Lorenzo, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Santa Maria delle Grazie Church and the Cimitero Monumentale di Milano cemetery. Milan also has a number of popular museums.

The Duomo di Milan, or Milan Cathedral, is the second largest church in Italy and the third largest in the world. The Duomo di Milan also houses the world's largest collection of marble statues including a golden Madonna statue on top of the spire. Constuction on the Gothic cathedral was begun in 1386 and has been added to throughout the centuries, up until today. The facade of the Duomo di Milan was completed in 1805 after Napoleon demanded it be finished before he was crowned King of Italy.

Santa Maria delle Grazie is a church and convent which was designed by Italian architect Guiniforte Solari. Orders to build the Santa Maria delle Grazie came from Duke of Milan Francesco I Sforza and the convent was completed in 1469. The church took a little more time, and the new Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza decided it would become a burial site for his family. Santa Maria delle Grazie is world-famous for housing the mural of The Last Supper, painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century.
