Aeolian Islands

General Information about Aeolian Islands

The Aeolian Islands which are set within the Tyrrhenian Sea just north of Sicily are a extremely popular tourist destination even though they are of volcanic origin. Most visitors to the island group head straight to the main island of Lipari which is home to more than 11,000 people.

There are eight main islands within the group which are Salina, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea, Basiluzzo and Vulcano. While visiting the Aeolian Islands a trip to Vulcano should not be missed as this island is famous for the it's hot springs and mud baths.

If your interested in exploring then spending the day hiking at Stromboli will be a real treat. While on Stromboli you will be able to climb to the top of the crater. Camping on the island is also possible if you would like to extend this experience.
