Budapest

Often referred to as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Budapest and has been inhabited as far back as the first century BC. The name Budapest is derived from the two regions of Buda and Pest and it wasn't until 1873 that these two were united. Also joined with Buda and Pest is the historical city of Obuda which means Old Buda and is part of the third district of Budapest.

Set along the Danube river Budapest is home to approximately 1,696,130 people and is one of the world's Top 100 Most Livable Cities. There is so much to see and do in Budapest with one of the most popular holiday destinations being Castle Hill or Varhegy in Hungarian. While there you can visit the Royal Palace, the National Gallery, Mary Magdalene Tower, Vienna Gate, Buda Castle Labyrinth, Matthias Church, Fisherman's Bastion. Also featured here is a sculpture of a Turul Bird which is connected in the history of how the Magyars settled in Hungary.

There are many museums and art gallery's to visit in Budapest with the most popular being the Museum of Applied Arts, Natural History Museum, the National Museum and the Holocaust Memorial Centre, just to name a few. Also if you wish to head out to the theatre the the Hungarian State Opera House should not be forgotten about where a wide variety of classical music performances are featured. There are also many art house theatres to visit with the Cinema Puskin being one of the most stunning theatres in Budapest.

While in Budapest be sure to visit some of the city's famous spa's that have been built around hot springs. In fact the baths in Budapest are so well known that many visitors to the city come just for that reason. There are many saunas, thermal pools as well as a wide range of massages to help take the pressure of everyday life.

You will be in for a real treat while in Budapest with a wide variety of restaurant's which a wide variety of traditional food. Also a trip to Budapest would not be complete without visiting one of the cities many trendy cafes which are known as kavehaz.
