WurzburgGeneral Information about WurzburgLocated along the river Main in the northern parts of the state of Bavaria is where you will find the city of Wurzburg. Home to more than 130,000 residents, Wurzburg can also be found within the region of Franconia and is thought to have been inhabited since approximately 1000 BC. Wurzburg is closely neighboured by Wertheim am Main which is located approximately 42 kilometres away, while Nuremberg and Frankfurt is just over 100 kilometres away.
There is plenty to see while you are visiting Wurzburg but one place that should not be missed is the Wurzburg Residence. Known locally as the Wurzburg Residenz this remarkable building is listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Dating back to 1744, the Wurzburg Residenz is a great example of Baroque architecture.
Another well visited and prominent building is the Fortress Marienberg. Located along the river Main this historical castle dates back to around 1631 and is today used as a museum and park.
