General Information about Rugen
Rugen is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful countryside and extensive sandy beaches. Rugen is a small island group with two main islands and some smaller islands. Rugen and Hiddensee are the main two islands and access to the islands are easy with regular trains travelling from Stralsund as well as some ferry's.
There are many natural attractions to see while your visiting the island and is home to two of Germany's national parks. Other popular places to see on the islands are Cape Arkona, Binz, Sellin, Sassnitz and Berfen auf Rugen. While in Rugen you must visit the island's the Kap Arkona Lighthouse and the Stubbenkamer White Cliffs along the Jasmund Peninsula. There are many charming hotels to stay in while your visiting Rugen as well as many restaurants where you can enjoy some traditional cuisine.

The Island of Rugen has a typical Mediterranean climate with sunny summer days with temperatures almost reaching 30 degrees. The winters are cool with averages of up to 8 degrees with the weather starting to warm up in March with tops of 20 degrees. Rugen has low rainfall records with an annual rainfall between 600 and 680 mm. The sun in Rugen usually shines for 1800 – 1870 hours each year.
Geographical Information On Rugen
Rugen is Germany's largest island measuring up to 935 square metres with a population of over 73,000. Rugen can be located in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Main access to the island is mainly via bridge and rail connected to the city of Stralsund. Bergen auf Rugen is the islands largest town and is located in the centre of Rugen.

There is always something to do on the island of Rugen for everybody. The Stortebeker Theatre Festival draws crowds far beyond Rugen and is held at Jasmund Bodden below the castle. One of the features of the year is the Spa House Hall Binz where the historical spa house regularly comes alive with show and live entertainment.
