Rugen is Germany's largest island measuring up to 935 square metres with a population of over 73,000. Rugen can be located in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Main access to the island is mainly via bridge and rail connected to the city of Stralsund. Bergen auf Rugen is the islands largest town and is located in the centre of Rugen.

There is always something to do on the island of Rugen for everybody. The Stortebeker Theatre Festival draws crowds far beyond Rugen and is held at Jasmund Bodden below the castle.
