Colmar

General Information about Colmar

The town of Colmar which is also known as a commune has been inhabited since the 9th century can be found within the region of Upper Alsace. Set within the department of Haut-Rhin and built along the Lauch River the commune of Colmar is home to over 65,000 residents. Colmar is located just 163 kilometres away from Berne in Switzerland, 259 kilometres away from Dijon and 235 kilometres away from Metz France.

The Old Town of Colmar is one of the towns most charming places to visit with numerous 16th and 17th century homes lining the streets. The Maison des Tetes dates back to 1609 and features architecture from the Renaissance period. The Maison des Tetes is one of the most visited historical buildings in the Old Town and it is a great place to stop for a bite to eat.

The Unterlinden Museum is one of Frances most visited museums and your trip to Colmar would not be complete without exploring through this fascinating art museum. Dating back to the 13th century and also known as the Musee d'Unterlinden the museum features a variety of exhibitions with the most well known piece being the Isenheim Altarpiece.
