Carcassonne

General Information about Carcassonne

Carcassonne which is thought to have been inhabited since approximately 3500 BC can be found within south west France in the department known as Aude. Carcassonne is home to a population of more than 45,000 and is located just 95 kilometres from Toulouse.

Carcassonne was most recently put on the map in 2004 and 2006 as a starting and finishing point for the Tour de France. If you are a fan of the movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves then you will enjoy exploring through Carcassonne's medieval fortress as this is one of the films locations. Carcassonne attracts many visitors each year for many reasons but one in particular is the city's Historic Fortified City which has been listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
