General Information about Windermere
Set within the Lake District National Park in North West England is where you will find Windermere lake. Found just 13 miles from The Lake District and 28 miles from Lancaster and 50 miles from Preston, the natural lake of Windermere covers total area of 5.7 square miles. Windermere is often referred to as a ribbon lake because of its long and narrow dimensions. The lake itself is over 220 feet deep and flows for over 10.5 miles.
There is plenty of activities to keep you occupied while you are visiting Windermere besides from the obvious water sports. Be sure to visit the local Steamboat Museum which is home to many interesting historical sail and steam boats. Visiting the Lakeland Equestrian is a great way to see some of the surroundings of Windermere.
