Officially announced as a municipal borough back in 1853 is the town of Middlesbrough which can be found within the region on North East England. Meddlesbrough which is located just 27 miles away from Sunderland with Newcastle Upon Tyne at a distance of 38 miles and 65 miles away from Leeds. Also belonging to the county of North Yorkshire, Middlesbrough is home to over 143,000 residents and has been inhabited since 686.
Middlesbrough boasts a number of interesting museums and historical buildings with many featuring architecture of English influences. The Middlesbrough Town Hall is one of the towns most well known buildings which was originally built back in 1887. But it would have to be the Acklam Hall that is the most well known attraction of this historical town. The Acklam Hall was built in 1678 and is in fact a Grade I Listed Building and is today used as a grammar school.
There are also a variety of museums worth exploring through while you are visiting Middlesbrough. One of the most popular museums is the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. You will find the museum approximately 3 miles away from Middlesbrough at Stewart Park. This location is widely known and documented as being the birthplace of history's great explorer. The Dorman Museum is another popular museum of Middlesbrough and is often considered as a general museum.
For those interested in the arts then a trip to the Middlebrough Institute of Modern Art should not be missed. This art gallery is one of the most recent attractions of Middlesbrough and mainly features contemporary art.
You can either choose to travel to Middlesbrough via bus, car or rail with regular trains arriving at the Middlesbrough Station. Flying is also possible with the Durham Tees Valley Airport being located just 11 miles from the city centre.
