General Information about Leeds

Leeds which has been inhabited since the Middle Ages can be found within the region of Yorkshire and the Humber. Home to over 444,000 residents, Leeds is neighboured by Bradford at a distance of 9 miles while the town of Barnsley is at a distance of 24 miles with the closest major city being Manchester which is 42 miles away. Leeds is a town West Yorkshire county and is a popular travel destination and has many awards with the most recent being the Visitor of the Year award.

There are many interesting attractions worth visiting while you are visiting Leeds such as the Kirkstall Abbey and Museum. Featuring architecture from the Victorian era the Kirkstall Abbey was originally built back in 1152 and is an excellent example of Yorkshire culture and history. Also worth visiting is the Harewod House which was built back in 1759 and was used as a convalescent hospital in World Wars I and II.

Leeds plays host to many festival and events throughout the year such as the Summer Heritage Festival which usually takes place each July. But the Leeds International Film Festival would have to be the most popular event of the year which is held each November. The Leeds International Film Festival is in fact England's largest film festival.

Leeds is well connected with the rest of England with regular flights landing at the Leeds Bradford International Airport. Travelling to Leeds via rail is also popular with regular trains arriving mainly along the East Coast Main Line. But of course it is also possible to travel to Leeds via car and bus.
