Essex

General Information about Essex

You will find the county of Essex within the East of England and has been inhabited since 527 A.D. Essex is located approximately 30 miles away from Ipswich, 39 miles away from Harlow and 52 miles away from London.

There are fourteen districts within Essex which are Basildon, Braintree, Brentwood, Castle Point, Chelmsford, Colchester, Epping Forest, Harlow, Maldon, Rochford, Southend on Sea, Tendring, Thurrock and Uttlesford. Essex is home to over 1,670,000 residents with approximately 110,000 residents living within the town of Chelmsford which is the main town of the county.

Essex is home to many fascinating and interesting historical castles and halls. The Colchester Castle is of particular interest and can be found within the town of Colchester. Listed as a Grade I Listed Building and featuring architecture from the Norman era. Also worth visiting is the Ingatestone Hall which can be found within the village of the same name. Dating back to the 16th century Ingatestone Hall attracts many visitors each year.

Essex is well connected with the rest of England with regular trains arriving from London but it is also possible to travel to Essex via car or bus. The London Stansted Airport can be found within the local village of Stansted which is 22 miles away from Chelmsford.
