General Information about Derby

Ideally located along the River Derwent is the historical city of Derby within the region of Derbyshire in East Midlands. Derby has been inhabited since 600 A.D and is located just 15 miles away from Nottingham, and approximately 32 miles away from Leicester and Walsall. Derby is home to over 236,000 residents and offers its visitors a wide range of historical monuments and attractions.

The Derby Cathedral is by far the most visited attraction with the original building being constructed around 943. The Cathedral that stands today was originally built in the 14th century and features architecture of medieval type influences.

While you are visiting Derby be sure to ask for directions to the extremely fascinating Kedleston Hall. This remarkable building dates back to 1297 and today is listed as a National Trust for Places of Historic Interest.

Another popular tourist attraction is the Darley Abbey which dates back to 1137. Not far from here is the Derby Industrial Museum with the main feature being the Silk Mill which has been listed as a World Heritage Site. Derby is home to many interesting museums and the Derby Museum and Art Gallery and the Pickford's House Museum would have to be two most visited museums.

Getting to Derby is simple with regular flights landing at the East Midlands Airport which is set between Nottingham and Leicester. Travelling by train is also another popular means of transportation such as rail, bus or car.
