General Information about Coventry
Coventry which was officially founded in 1043 but has been inhabited since the Middle Ages can be found within the region of the West Midlands. Located just 22 miles away from Birmingham and a distance of 19 miles away from Stratford Upon Avon, Coventry boasts a population of over 307,000 residents. As a result of Coventry's large population the city is in fact the second largest city in the English Midlands.
Coventry is home to many fascinating historical buildings and the Coventry Cathedral would have to be the most well known monument of this historical city. The original Coventry Cathedral which is known as St Michael's Cathedral was first built back in 1095, but was destroyed during World War II. The remains of the original cathedral are located next to the new cathedral that was built 1962. Another popular tourist destination is the Ford's Hospital which dates back to 1509. Coventry is also home to many interesting museums such as the Midland Air Museum and the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum.
Coventry is well connected with the rest of England with regular trains arriving from London and Birmingham along the West Coast Main Line. Flying is also a popular means of transportation as well as car and bus.
