Chichester

General Information about Chichester

You will find the cathedral city of Chichester thirty miles between Brighton and Southampton within the county of West Sussex. Chichester is home to over 24,000 residents and has been inhabited since Roman times. Without a doubt it is the Chichester Cathedral that is the major draw card of this charming city. Featuring architecture of Romanesque influences, construction of the Chichester Cathedral began in 1088 but was not completed until the 15th century.

There are other historical sites to visit while you are visiting Chichester such as the Bishop's Palace which dates back to medieval times. Be sure to visit the Fishbourne Roman Palace which is of Celtic origins and was excavated in the 1960's. While you are exploring through Chichester you must visit the Chichester Cross which is set within the centre of the town and has been a feature since 1477.
