CamberleyGeneral Information about CamberleyThe town of Camberley is located in Surrey in the south of England. Camberley is situated about 50 kilometres south west of the centre of the city of London and has been home to many famous names such as boy band 5ive, pop group the Spice Girls and punk rock band The Members. The town was originally known as Cambridge Town, but changed it's name to Camberley in 1877 as the town's population had grown and it was becoming confused with the town of Cambridge. Today Camberley is home to more than 30,000 people.
Camberley has many attractions and interesting places to visit including The Mall shopping centre, The Main Square, High Street, Camberley Theatre, The Surrey Heath Museum, The Royal Logistic Corps Museum and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
The Surrey Heath Museum in Camberley hosts both permanent and temporary exhibitions about the history of the surrounding areas and heathland. There is a vast variety of collections on display in the museum throughout the year, including the Playthings of The Past collection which features toys and games which date back more than 300 years. Another of the most famous features in the Surrey Heath Museum is a painting collection by the Steward husband and wife team. A small military collection is also on display in the museum.
The Camberley Theatre is owned and managed by the Surrey Heath Borough Council and is the most prominant theatres in Camberly. The theatre supports many different types of productions throughout the year including music, drama, stand-up comedy, children's shows, pantomimes and films. The venue has a seating capacity for more than 400 people and also features conference rooms, a multi-media editing suite and a studio theatre.
