The Faroe Islands which means Sheep Islands is an interesting holiday destination with only one out of the eighteen islands being inhabited. Set between Iceland and Norway in Northern Europe and was originally settled by Irish Hermits in the sixth century.

Today the Faroe Islands are controlled by the Danish government but are seeking independence with growing support. The capital city of the Faroe Islands is Tjornevik and is most popular travel destination on the island. There are over 120 cities and villages on the island and the official language is Faroese which is a Germanic language from Old Norse.

Getting to the Faroe Islands is easy with regular ferry's and flights from Denmark and Icelands as well as the Shetland islands. Other popular destinations to visit are Saksun, Torshavn, Foroya, Fornminissavn, Kirkjubour, and the Vestmanna Bird Cliffs. The locals are very friendly on the islands and will no doubt make you feel at home.
