Pula

General Information about Pula

The picturesque city of Pula which is thought to have been inhabited since the 10th century B.C can be found at the most southern point of the Istria peninsula. The city of Pula which is home to over 62,000 residents has been constructed below and on top of seven hills. Known widely as being the most populated city within the Istria County Pula has plenty of interesting sights and monuments worth visiting.

Pula which has a strong Italian heritage features many well preserved Roman buildings and one of the most visited monuments is the Pula Arena. The Pula Arena dates back to the 1st century C.E with the exterior being constructed of linestone rising to almost thirty metres high. Visiting the Pula Arena is a real honour as it is one of two hundred of the remaining Roman Amphitheatres.

Another site worth exploring through is the Arch of the Sergii which is thought to have been built between 27 and 29B.C. The Arch of the Sergii which was originally the city gate of Pula attracted the presence of Michelangelo as well as many other well known artists.

Pula is easily accessible from many major cities with the main gateway being through the Pula International Airport. It is also possible to travel to Pula via bus from Venice, Belgrade, Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Trieste and Ljubljana.
