Set at an elevation of 3,150 feet the town of Samokov is one of Bulgaria's most popular skiing destinations. Home to over thirty thousand residents, Samokov is located within the province of Sofia.

If you are planning a trip to Samokov a trip to the nearby Rila Mountain is in order as it is Bulgaria's largest south western mountain range. Found on the north western side of the range is the ever popular Seven Rila Lakes which will take your breath away with their extreme beauty.

For those interested in skiing and hiking then Samokov is also near the mountain massif known as Vitosha. Another popular destination to visit while you are in the area is the Rila Monastery which dates back to the 10th century.
