If you are planning on visiting Belgium you must take the time to visit the city of Antwerp. Located within the region of Flemish, Antwerp is the largest city in the country and is home to over 461,500 residents. Antwerp which was named in the 4th century is ideally located just forty minutes away from the nations capital of Brussels.

The architecture of Antwerp dates back to the 15th and 16th century and boasts a variety of grand buildings. The Antwerp City Hall is of particular interest dating back to 1561 with architecture from Renaissance, Italian and Flemish styles. If you love exploring through old cathedrals then the Cathedral of Our Lady will not let you down with its Gothic influences. Construction of this beautiful building began in 1351 and was finally completed in 1521.

If you are a fan of animals and nature then the Antwerp Zoo is the place to be. This magnificent zoo was opened in 1843 and is home to over 5,000 animals. When you have had enough of playing with the animals try visiting the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. Home to many works of arts dating as far back as the 15th century and of neo-classical architecture which was constructed in 1810.

Antwerp is well connected with many major city and getting there is no problem with regular flights landing at the airport. It is also possible to get to Antwerp via train and bus.
