General Information about Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is in the Eastern part of Europe on the Caspian Sea, and shares its borders with Turkey and Iran in the South, Russia in the North, and Armenia in the West. Its population is around 8.5 million with 4 million living in the capital Baku on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Baku is an ancient city with well over 50 historical monuments from many past eras in Baku's history. Azerbaijan as a whole is a country that has many historical areas complete with monuments and ancient ruins. In fact some the villages today preserved the old way of life and reflect the old architectural traditions.
The Masalli Region in the South of Azerbaijan is known for its thermal mineral springs and its medicinal mineral water and with its historical and architectural monuments make it a place to visit.

The summers in Azerbaijan are normally hot while winters are mild and wet with snow in the mountains. Temperatures in the mountainous regions average from 5 degrees to 27 degrees in the lowlands in summer. The warmest time to visit is between April and October, and for the mountainous areas July and August is best.

Azerbaijan supplies almost half the worlds oil and is one of the oldest oil producing countries in the world. They also supply iron, aluminum, zinc, copper, arsenic, molybdenum, marble, and fire clay. Azerbaijan neighbours are Georgia, Russia, Iran, Armenia and Turkey and is situated on the joint of Europe and Asia. The mountains areas are covered in vast shaded forests and the main attractions of Azerbaijan are its mountainous lakes. The Batabat, Goygol and the Maralgol provide distinctive beauty. The largest rivers are Kura River (1515 km) and Araz River (1072 km).
