Baku which is also known as Baky or Baki is home to over 2,074,300 people and is approximately 2,000 years old. The city of Baku features many ancient buildings and historical architecture. With the most visited sites being the Palace of The Shirvanshahs and the Maiden Tower.

You will find the Palace of the Shirvanshahs in the Baku's Inner City where you will be able to see burial vaults, the shah's mosque with a minaret and the remains of the bath-house. The Maiden Tower which is also known as The Eye tower is set in the Old City and is one of Azerbaijan's national emblems.

Getting to Baku is easy and is home to the Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Nightlife in Baku is far from boring with a wide range of entertainment to choose from. In particular the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is a popular place to visit for ballet and opera. There are also many trendy bars and pubs.

Due to recent (March 2008) conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia before travelling to the Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan it is recommended to seek professional advise and to exercise caution. This conflict shouldn't last long as Azervaijan Baku has put in an application to host the Olympic Games in 2016.
