MelkGeneral Information about MelkIdeally located along the Danube river in Lower Austria the city of Melk attracts many visitors each year. Melk's main attraction is the Melk Abbey which is known locally as Stift Melk. Dating back to 1089 the Stift Melk is world famous, boasting some breathtaking architecture and a library that is home to hundreds of medieval manuscripts.
The city of Melk is home to a population of more than five thousand residents and is closely neighboured by Krems at a distance of 37 kilometres. Melk is also located near the famous Wachau valley at a distance of approximately 143 kilometres. The best way of travelling to Melk is by train with regular trains travelling from Vienna.
