General Information about Graz

Visiting Austria's wonderful city of Graz is something not to be missed, located just two hours away from the nations capital. Graz has been inhabited since the copper ages and the city's Old Town is listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site. This remarkable city is the Austria's second largest city and is home to over 290,000 residents.

Graz is set at an elevation of 1,158 feet and is home to many historical buildings and monuments. The cityscape of this city will take your breath away with a large variety of Gothic and 14th century architecture.

Some of Graz's most visited monuments are the Herz-Jesu-Kirche which is the city's largest church at over one hundred metres high and the Grazer Schloßberg. Known in English as Castle Mountain, Schloßberg is located within the centre of Graz and is surrounded by some beautiful gardens as well as a cafe.

If you are a fan of visiting museums, then the city of Graz will not disappoint you as there are countless museums worth visiting. For those interested in the arts the Grazer Kunsthaus, the Neue Galerie, the Alte Galerie, and the Camera Austria should not be missed. Other popular museums are the Künstlerhaus and the Tramwaymuseum which features over forty trams dating back to 1873.

Getting to Graz is simple with the Graz Airport being located under twenty minutes away from the city. It is also possible to get there via car, bus and many trains travelling to the surrounding towns.
